Turn a walk round the house into an order that is right first time. The working is shown, so a short tin can be traced back to the wall that caused it.
Painters and decorators pricing and ordering a job, and homeowners or landlords measuring up before buying paint.
2 pages, in this order:
Printed under the title: Measuring up a decorating job before it is ordered: area, product, coats and litres, surface by surface.
Coverage from the tin, coats from the wall. Coverage is the manufacturer's figure for that product on that surface, printed on the tin or the data sheet — copy it into its column for each line and work the litres out from it. A bare wall, a stained ceiling and a previously painted one drink different amounts of the same paint; the coats column is your judgement.
Write-on lines: Customer · Address · Measured on · Measured by · Stripping / lining needed where · Furniture & floors: who covers · Days allowed · Access needed
Table, 12 rows: Room · Surface · Area · Condition & prep · Product & colour · Coats · Coverage (tin) · Litres

Ruled lines: Notes — sketch, colour numbers, anything the customer asked for
Because coverage is the manufacturer's figure for that product on that surface, and it changes between paints, finishes and backgrounds. The column is for the figure on your tin; the sheet would be wrong for most of them if it printed one.
That record is the homeowner's note of what colour went where, kept for touching up years later. This is the decorator's working sheet before the job — areas, coats and litres — and it is done before a tin is opened.
Record what went on which wall so a touch-up in three years is one trip to one shop instead of an afternoon of matching.
Record what each surface actually was and what went onto it. A later crack, a blown patch or a paint failure can then be traced to the background rather than guessed at.
Work out what one job actually cost, so the next quote is based on a figure rather than on a feeling about the last one.
Run a job that lasts longer than a day without losing track of what was ordered, what arrived, and what changed after the work started.
The same subject, with a version you can fill in on screen.
Every item the job needs, with its size or specification.
The gross and net area of every wall, ceiling and area of woodwork.
Every order placed, with the supplier, item, quantity and unit price.
Every sheet, binder, game and puzzle on Upkeep Papers is free to download, with no email and no account.
