What this sheet is for

Work out what one job actually cost, so the next quote is based on a figure rather than on a feeling about the last one.

Who it is for

Trades, small builders, makers, garages, gardeners and anyone who quotes fixed prices for work.

How to use it

  1. Record labour on the day, in hours, including the parts nobody bills for.
  2. Keep every supplier invoice against the job number.
  3. Include travel, waste disposal and the second trip for the forgotten part.
  4. Compare cost against charged at the end, and write down whether you would price it the same again.
  5. Cost two or three jobs properly rather than all of them badly.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
