What this sheet is for

Stop the end-of-job argument before it starts, by having every change written and initialled on the day it was agreed.

Who it is for

Bathroom fitters and small building firms running a job with several trades through one room.

How to use it

  1. Copy the quoted spec into the scope table before strip-out.
  2. Write every variation on the day, with what changed and why, and get the customer's initials beside it.
  3. Log each site day — who was there, what got done, what was used.
  4. Run through the sign-off checks with the customer in the room.
  5. Both sign; keep a copy with the invoice.

What is on the sheet

2 pages, in this order:

Page 1

Printed under the title: A bathroom job from strip-out to sign-off: what was agreed, what was fitted, who was on site each day, what was added on the way and what the customer checked before paying.

Write the change on the day. The scope table is the argument-stopper. Fill in the quoted column before the first tile comes off, and write every change in the variation column on the day it is agreed, with the customer's initials beside it.

Questions

Why is there no price column against the variations?

Because a variation is first a change of scope, and the sheet keeps that separate from the money. Price the changes on your quote or invoice; this sheet is the record that they were agreed.

What if the customer will not initial a change?

Then it is not agreed, and that is worth knowing before the work is done rather than after. Write what was discussed and who declined, and go back to the quote.
