Privacy

The short version

• Google AdSense is loaded on this site for advertising. It is a third party and it processes data about visitors.
• We run no third-party analytics — no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no pixel, no heatmap. We do count how often each interactive tool is opened and used, using our own counter, described in full below.
• There are no accounts and nothing to sign in to.
• The contact form is the only thing on the free site that collects anything about you — it sends what you type to us, and nowhere else. There is no newsletter or mailing list.
• If you use the “buy us a coffee” link, PayPal processes the payment, and we receive what PayPal shares with the recipient: typically your name, your email address, the amount and any note. Nothing is collected from people who only download files. Nothing on this site is sold. More below.
• Sheet downloads are not tracked. The PDFs in the library are ordinary static files and nothing watches who fetches them. The tools do add one to a counter when their own PDF is generated, with nothing attached to it.
• What you write on a sheet never reaches us. Fillable PDFs are completed on your own device; there is no upload and no server involved.

Advertising, in detail

This site is funded by advertising. The Google AdSense script is loaded on every page, under the publisher account ca-pub-4172460239658162.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure advertising, and may use data about your visit to do so. Google’s own description of how it uses data from sites that use its services is published at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and its privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

You can review and change Google’s ad personalisation settings for your own account at myadcenter.google.com, and opt out of personalised advertising from participating vendors at optout.aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.com.

Consent. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are shown Google’s consent message before any personalised advertising is served, and can change that choice at any time. Refusing consent will not restrict anything on this site — every sheet stays free and ungated either way.

The tool counter, in detail

The interactive tools count how often they are used, so we can tell which ones are worth improving and which nobody wants. This is our own counter, running on this site’s own hosting. No analytics company is involved and no data leaves it.

Everything it records, in full: a name from a fixed list of five (view, generate, download, print, related), the name of the tool it happened on, and today’s date. Three values, added to a running total.

What it does not record, and could not:

• No cookie is set, and no identifier of any kind is created or stored.
• No IP address, user agent, referrer, screen size, location or device information is stored.
• Nothing you type into a tool is sent. Not a field, not a total, not a filename.
• Nothing is joined up. Two events from the same person are indistinguishable from two events from two people, because nothing tells them apart.
• There is no profile, no session and no history, so there is nothing to export, sell or hand over — the stored data is a set of counters that could not identify anyone.

Turning it off. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, the counter is switched off completely and nothing is sent at all — even though there would be nothing personal in it. Blocking the request changes nothing about how the tools work: they run entirely on your own device either way.

The counts are aggregate totals per tool per day. They are kept while they are useful for deciding what to build, and there is nothing in them that decays into a privacy problem if we keep them too long.

What the fill-in-online sheets keep, and where

The resources and some of the tools can be filled in on the page and come back the way you left them. That works because your browser keeps what you typed in its own local storage, on your device, under this site's name. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to us or to anyone else, and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser's site data removes it; so does the Clear everything button on each sheet. If your browser blocks storage (a private window, for instance) the sheet still works — it simply forgets when you leave. The PDF and CSV downloads are built on your own device from what is on the page.

Server logs

The site is hosted on Netlify, which keeps ordinary server logs — typically IP address, timestamp, requested URL and user agent — as essentially every web server does. That is a normal part of serving a web page and is outside our control.

The contact form

The form on the contact page is handled by Netlify Forms, part of the hosting this site already runs on. There is no third-party form service and no JavaScript involved. When you submit it, the fields you filled in — your email address, and whatever you wrote — are stored in the site's Netlify account and forwarded to us by email.

• It is used to answer you, and for nothing else.
• You are not added to any mailing list. There is no mailing list.
• Your address is not sold, shared, or used to build a profile.
• Submissions are kept while they are useful — a correction about a sheet is worth keeping until the sheet is fixed — and deleted when they are not.
• The form includes a hidden decoy field to catch spam bots. It collects nothing from you.

Email newsletters

There is no newsletter and no sign-up form, so no email address is collected for one. If a newsletter is ever started it will be opt-in, every email will carry a working unsubscribe link, and the address will be used for that newsletter and nothing else. It will not be sold, shared, or used to build a profile. This page will be updated before that changes.

If you buy us a coffee

What is collected, and by whom. The coffee link opens PayPal's own payment page. PayPal takes the payment and collects what it needs to do that, under its own privacy statement. We never see your card or bank details. From PayPal we receive the details it shares with a recipient: typically your name, your email address, the amount, the date and any note you write.

Why. To keep tax and accounting records (a legal obligation), and to reply if you write to us.

Who is responsible. We are the controller of the payment records. PayPal is responsible for its own processing of your payment.

How long. Payment records are kept for six years, for tax purposes.

What we do not do. A coffee does not add you to any mailing list, and no account is created on this site. No PayPal code loads while you browse it.

Links out

Some pages link to manufacturers, regulators, retailers and to other sites we run. Those sites have their own policies and we have no control over them. If a link is ever an affiliate link — meaning we might be paid if you buy something — the page will say so plainly. There are none at present.

Your rights

Where data protection law applies to you, you have rights over personal data held about you, including access, correction, erasure and objection. The only personal data we hold is what people choose to send us through the contact form or by email, and the payment records of anyone who uses the coffee link; write to us and we will show you it, and delete whatever we are not required to keep. For data processed by Google in connection with advertising, Google is the controller for those purposes and its policy above explains how to exercise those rights; you can also write to hello@upkeeppapers.com and we will help where we can.

Children

This site is aimed at adults looking after property, vehicles and equipment. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

This page describes the site honestly rather than defensively. It is not legal advice, and if you are relying on it for your own compliance purposes you should take your own.
