What this sheet is for

Get the parts and the isolation down on paper at the job. The invoice is then right, the van stock is right and the next plumber can find the stopcock.

Who it is for

Plumbers and heating engineers doing call-out and repair work, and small firms whose engineers hand in a sheet per job.

How to use it

  1. Write the fault as the customer reported it, then where you turned the water off and what you isolated.
  2. Take one line per location or fitting: what was actually wrong, what you did and how you tested it.
  3. List every part with its source — van stock, merchant, or supplied by the customer — and the ticket reference.
  4. Record what still needs doing, what the customer was told, and have them sign.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: One plumbing call-out: the fault as reported, what was found and done, and every part fitted with where it came from.

Isolation and parts, written down. Where the stopcock is and what was isolated go on the page so the customer, or the next plumber, can find them. Parts carry their source — van, merchant or the customer's own — because that decides invoice line or stock adjustment.

Questions

Why does the parts table ask where each part came from?

Because it decides what happens next: a van-stock part needs replacing on the van, a merchant part has a ticket to match to the invoice, and a customer's own part is not charged for. One column settles all three.

Is this a job sheet or an invoice?

A job sheet. It carries no prices; it is the record the invoice is written from, and the copy the customer keeps shows what was done without the money on it. The invoice sheet is a separate page.
