Show the milk was cooled after every milking, with the time and initials of whoever read it. Anything outside the buyer's limits is written up with its cause and fix.
Dairy farmers and milkers without an automatic tank recorder, or keeping a paper back-up beside one.
2 pages, in this order:
Printed under the title: A month, front and back: the milk temperature after each milking with the time and who read it, the collection, the wash, and anything outside your limits.
The buyer's limits, not ours. No cooling temperature, time limit or wash water figure is printed. Copy the limits your milk buyer or quality scheme sets into the boxes below, read the tank at the same point in the routine every milking, and write up any reading outside them as a deviation.
Write-on lines: Farm or holding · Month and year · Tank · Milk buyer · Cool to · Within · Wash water target · Limits from · Thermometer checked
Also printed: Morning milking · Evening milking · Wash · Day · Time · Temp · Collected · Done · Water · Notes · initials · tick · temp · deviation no.
Also printed: Morning milking · Evening milking · Wash · Day · Time · Temp · Collected · Done · Water · Notes · initials · tick · temp · deviation no.

Write-on lines: Month reviewed by · Date · Filed or sent to
Because the limit, the time allowed to reach it and the wash water target are set by your milk buyer, quality scheme or local rules, and they are not the same everywhere. Copy yours into the boxes at the top so every reading is judged against the right figure.
Any reading outside the limits you wrote at the top, a milking where no reading was taken, or a wash that did not run properly. Write what was seen, what milk it touched, the cause, the fix and the step that stops it recurring.
As a back-up, yes: a manual reading after each milking covers a recorder that fails, and the deviation section is still where the explanation goes.
Record yields per animal daily, with the notes that turn an unexplained drop into an early warning.
Change liners when your own herd's numbers say they are due, not when milking starts to slow. The rest of the rubberware and every machine test get their own record.
See the true level of mastitis in the herd, mild and untreated cases included. Repeat cows and problem quarters then show up on paper instead of being half remembered.
Show for any cheese, yoghurt or ice cream batch which milk went into it, from whom, and that it was checked at the door against the limit you set.
