What this sheet is for

Hold the herd's detail in one legible place, so tags, parentage and movements can be read off a page instead of assembled from memory and text messages.

Who it is for

Suckler and dairy herds, smallholders with a few cattle, and anyone keeping animals on a registered holding.

How to use it

1. Write the holding number on every sheet — it is the first thing anyone asks for.
2. Record the full ear tag, not the last three digits.
3. Enter movements here on the day and in your official records as required.
4. File completed sheets rather than rewriting them; the history is the value.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

Is this a herd register?

No. Most countries require cattle keepers to hold a register whose form, content and retention period are specified in law. This is a working record designed to sit alongside that, not to replace it. Check what your own authority requires.
