What this sheet is for
Keep the flock on paper, so that a ewe's history is something you can read at the handling pens rather than something you half remember.
Who it is for
Smallholders, hill and lowland flocks, pedigree breeders and anybody keeping more sheep than they can hold in their head.
How to use it
- Keep one sheet per group and write the group at the top.
- Record the tag exactly as it reads, flock number included.
- Say at the top which condition scale you are using, then use only that one.
- Record treatments in the medicine record too — the column here is a pointer to it.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
Why are there no condition scores or tupping dates printed?
Because they depend on your breed, your ground and your system, and a printed date on a free sheet would be followed by somebody it is wrong for. What to do and when is a conversation with your vet and your own experience of the place.
Does this satisfy a flock register requirement?
Not by itself, and it does not claim to. Many countries require a specific register, in a specific form, kept for a specified number of years. Check what applies where you are and keep this alongside it.
