What this sheet is for
Keep each sow's breeding history on one page, so decisions about which sows to keep are made from records rather than impressions.
Who it is for
Smallholders with a few sows, pedigree breeders and small commercial units.
How to use it
- Fill it in at the pen on the day — assistance and timings blur within a week.
- Record parity every time; without it the numbers cannot be compared.
- Record losses honestly, including the ones you would rather forget.
- Note what you would do differently with this sow next time.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
What litter size should I expect?
The sheet does not say, deliberately. It depends on breed, parity, condition and system, and a printed figure would set the wrong expectation for most keepers. Your own records after three or four farrowings are the best benchmark you will get.
When should I intervene at a farrowing?
That is a judgement made in front of the animal by somebody who can see it, and it belongs to you and your vet. This sheet records what you decided.
