Record each birth while the detail is still exact, including the assistance and the losses, so next season is planned from what happened rather than what you recall.
Who it is for
Anyone lambing or calving — smallholders through to commercial flocks and herds.
How to use it
- Fill it in the same day. Timings and assistance are the first details to blur.
- Record losses honestly; a season read back without them teaches nothing.
- Note colostrum, because it is the question asked about every sick youngster later.
- Write down what you would do differently with that dam next time.

A record of the birth, not guidance on it. This sheet records births. It gives no guidance on when to intervene, when to call a vet or what is normal, because those are judgements for you and your vet on the day and in front of the animal.
How to use this sheet

- Record the outcome honestly, including losses — a season read back with the losses left out teaches you nothing.

Questions
Does the sheet say when to intervene?
No, and it never will. When to assist and when to call a vet is a judgement made in front of the animal by somebody who can see it, and it depends on the dam, the species and your own experience. This records what you decided.
