What this sheet is for

Track weight gain against feed, so you know what a finished pig actually costs you and whether a batch is doing what it should.

Who it is for

Smallholders raising pigs for the freezer, and small units finishing batches.

How to use it

  1. Weigh the same way every time — tape, scales or crate, but only one of them.
  2. Record the feed alongside the weight; the two numbers are useless apart.
  3. Write your own target and its source in the header.
  4. Keep completed sheets: last year's batch is this year's benchmark.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

What growth rate is normal?

It depends on breed, feed, housing and season, and no honest figure can be printed for all of them. Traditional breeds grow slowly and are meant to. Set your own target from your breed society, your feed supplier or last year's sheet.
