Window and Door Survey Sheet

A free printable window survey form — each opening as found, its condition, reveal and cill, what is in the way, door details and the access a quote allows for.

First page of the Window and Door Survey Sheet — Quote for the job you will actually find — the boxed-in reveal, the alarm contact, the tiled cill — instead of the one you assumed from the front elevation.

What this sheet is for

Quote for the job you will actually find — the boxed-in reveal, the alarm contact, the tiled cill — instead of the one you assumed from the front elevation.

Who it is for

Window and door installers, glaziers and surveyors on the first visit, before sizes are taken for the order.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the property, whether it is listed or in a conservation area as the customer understands it, and the parking and access.
  2. Take one line per opening working round the house: what is there, its condition, the reveal, what is in the way, how you will reach it.
  3. Record each door's swing, threshold and the locks the customer wants.
  4. Tick the access and making-good items, note what the quote must allow for, and have the customer sign the survey.

What is on the sheet

2 pages, in this order:

Page 1

Printed under the title: The first visit for a window or door job: what is in each opening now, what state it and its surround are in, what is in the way, and how you will get at it.

What is there, and what is in the way. This is the survey of what is there, not the fitting sizes for the order — those and the glass choices belong on your measure-and-fit sheet. Whether the property needs permission for new windows depends on the rules where it is: ask, and write the answer down.

Questions

Where do the fitting sizes go?

On your measure-and-fit sheet, with the deductions and glass per opening. This sheet is the earlier visit: what is there now and what is in the way, so the quote covers the job before the sizes are taken.

Does the sheet tell me whether permission is needed?

No. Whether a property needs permission for new windows depends on the rules where it is and the property's status. The sheet has a box for what the customer told you and a prompt to check.
