What this sheet is for

Price a job in writing, with the exclusions written down, so both sides know what was and was not covered before the work starts.

Who it is for

Trades, gardeners, cleaners, mechanics, makers and anyone quoting for work.

How to use it

  1. Write plainly at the top whether this is an estimate or a quotation.
  2. Break the price down by stage or item — an unexplained total invites haggling.
  3. Fill in the exclusions. This is the section that prevents the argument.
  4. Put a validity date on it, so an old price does not come back months later.
  5. Attach your own terms; this sheet does not supply any.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

What is the difference between an estimate and a quotation?

In general use, an estimate is a considered guess and a quotation is an offer of a fixed price — but what each one binds you to is a matter of local law and of what you wrote. Say clearly which you are giving, and take your own advice if a job is big enough to matter.
