What this sheet is for

Leave a legible schedule in the lid of the board so the next person to open it knows what every way does without tracing cables.

Who it is for

Electricians fitting or altering a consumer unit, and property owners who want a readable record of their own board.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the board, its location, supply type and RCD arrangement from what is fitted.
  2. Take each way in order and write what it feeds in words the householder would understand.
  3. Record the cable type and size and the device and rating as fitted, and which RCD each way sits behind.
  4. Leave blank rows for spare ways so alterations can be added later.
  5. Have a second person check it against the board before it goes in the lid.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: One consumer unit, way by way: what each circuit feeds, the cable it runs in, the device protecting it and where it sits in the RCD arrangement — the schedule that goes inside the lid. Ratings and sizes are what your design put in; test results go on the certificate your scheme issues, not here.

Questions

Why are there no ratings or cable sizes suggested?

Because each is a design decision for that circuit, made under the rules where you work, and the sheet has no business suggesting one. The columns record what is fitted.

Is this the certificate?

No. Test results and the declaration go on whatever certificate your scheme issues. This is the schedule that describes the board — which is often the part the household actually reads.
