What this sheet is for

Tie the survey, the treatment and the guarantee together on one page, so a claim years later can be answered from the record and not from memory.

Who it is for

Damp-proofing contractors and general builders carrying out a damp course installation, and the property owners who keep the guarantee.

How to use it

  1. Record each wall surveyed — existing course, bridging found, your meter reading and where it was taken.
  2. Note the method and the product with its batch, and the wall dimensions treated.
  3. Fill in the replastering spec used and the drying time you told the customer.
  4. Write in who is issuing the guarantee, its reference and term.
  5. Both sign; the customer keeps it with the guarantee.

What is on the sheet

2 pages, in this order:

Page 1

Printed under the title: A damp-proofing job from survey to guarantee: what was found in each wall, what was decided, what was injected or fitted, how the wall was replastered and who is guaranteeing it.

The product sheet sets the numbers. Injection heights, hole spacing, cure times and the plaster spec all come from the product's own data sheet, and the guarantee terms from whoever issues it. Meter readings are yours, on your meter — write them down, and say where they were taken.

Questions

Why no injection heights or hole spacings on the sheet?

Because they come from the data sheet of the product you are using, and differ between products and wall types. The treatment table gives you blanks to record what was done to that wall.

Is a meter reading proof of rising damp?

A meter reading is a number on your meter at a point on a wall. What it means is your judgement as the surveyor, which is why the sheet asks for the cause you suspect and where the reading was taken, not just the figure.
