What this sheet is for

Record the cylinders on a vehicle each day and that they were carried as your procedure says. The total is checked against the limit you write in, not one printed for you.

Who it is for

Gas engineers, welders, caterers, plumbers and anyone who carries gas cylinders in a van or pick-up.

How to use it

  1. List each gas carried with the number of full and empty cylinders and what they count toward your total.
  2. Under the list, write the total, your limit for the vehicle with its unit, and where the limit comes from.
  3. Say whether the load is within your limit, and what was done if it was not.
  4. Run the checks before setting off, then the on-road and end-of-day ones.
  5. Note any leak, damage or near miss, and what the supplier was told.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: The cylinders on one vehicle on one day, totalled against your own limit, and the checks made before the run and at the end of it.

Your limit, from your procedure. No quantity limit, sign or kit requirement is printed: each depends on the gases, the cylinder sizes, the vehicle and the rules where you are. Write your limit, from your supplier, your procedure or the guidance you follow, in the boxes below.

Questions

Why is there no threshold quantity on the sheet?

Because the quantity that changes what a vehicle must carry or display depends on the gases, the cylinder sizes and the rules where you drive, and it is worked out from your supplier's information or the industry guidance you follow. The sheet gives you a box for your figure and its source.

Do empty cylinders count?

Treat them as carrying gas: an empty cylinder is rarely completely empty, which is why the sheet asks for full and empty separately. Whether and how they count toward your total is for your own procedure to say.
