What this sheet is for

Keep a dated record of monthly visual checks, and separate them clearly from the professional servicing that premises usually also need.

Who it is for

Homes, workshops, boats, holiday lets and small premises.

How to use it

  1. List each extinguisher with its type, size and serial number.
  2. Check monthly: gauge in the green, pin and seal intact, hose clear, no damage, still visible and accessible.
  3. Record faults and what you did about them.
  4. Log professional servicing separately in the lower table.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

Is a visual check enough?

Not on its own for most premises. A visual check by the responsible person is usually monthly, with servicing by a competent person at a longer interval — but the exact duties depend on the type of premises and the country. Check what applies to yours.
