What this sheet is for

Give everyone in a production the same list of who is playing whom and who covers them, instead of a scatter of messages.

Who it is for

Directors, stage managers and company managers of plays, musicals and school or community productions.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the production and the version or date — a cast list changes, and an old copy in circulation causes real confusion.
  2. List every character against the actor playing it.
  3. Record the understudy or cover for each part, even where none is assigned yet — it shows the gap.
  4. Add a contact for each actor, and use the notes column for doubling or scene tracking.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: Who is playing whom, who understudies them, and how to reach each one — one list for the whole company, kept apart from who is called into the room on any given day.

Questions

How is this different from the Dressing Room Allocation Sheet?

That sheet assigns physical space — who is in which room or at which mirror. This one is who is playing whom and who covers them, which the dressing room sheet does not need to repeat.

What about actors playing more than one part?

Give a doubling actor a separate row per character, with the same name in the actor column each time. The list is read by character as well as by actor, and both need to find their own line.
