What this sheet is for
Track what goes into the tank and what comes out of it, so a short delivery, a leak or a bad month shows up as a number instead of a suspicion.
Who it is for
Households and landlords on oil or kerosene heating, and anyone sharing a tank or reselling fuel between properties.
How to use it
- Read the tank gauge immediately before and immediately after every delivery.
- Record the quantity, the unit price and the total, in whatever unit you are billed in.
- Work out the usage since the previous delivery and write it in.
- Keep the delivery notes with the sheet — the reading and the note together are the evidence if a quantity is ever queried.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
Why record the tank reading as well as the quantity delivered?
Because the two do not always agree. The gauge reading before and after is the only check you have on what actually went in, and it is also what lets you work out consumption between deliveries.
My gauge is not very accurate. Is it still worth it?
Yes — consistency matters more than precision here. The same imperfect gauge read the same way each time still shows you a trend, and a sudden change in that trend is the thing worth noticing.
