What this sheet is for

See what a heating season actually costs and which supplier and which fuel behaved best, rather than remembering it vaguely by March.

Who it is for

Anyone heating with a wood burner, multi-fuel stove or open fire and buying fuel by the load, the bag or the crate.

How to use it

1. Record every delivery or purchase on the day it arrives, with the supplier.
2. Write the quantity in whatever unit it was sold to you, and say which unit that is.
3. If you take a moisture reading, log it beside the load it came from.
4. Use the notes column for how it burned — that is what tells you whether to buy from the same place again.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

Does this replace the chimney sweeping record?

No. Sweeping, flue condition and certificate numbers belong on the Chimney Sweep and Stove Record, which is a separate sheet. This one is only about the fuel.

What is the moisture column for?

For your own reading, if you take one — meters are inexpensive and the figure is worth tracking across a season. No target is printed, because what may be burned and in what condition is set locally and differs by area. Check the rules that apply where you live.

How much fuel will I get through in a winter?

That depends on the appliance, the house, the climate and how you run it, and no honest figure can be printed on a sheet. Two or three seasons of this log will tell you your own number, which is the only one worth having.
