What this sheet is for

Turn 'walk the floor' into a record that shows which aisle was looked at, what was wrong, and whether anyone did anything about it.

Who it is for

Warehouse supervisors, shift leads and anyone whose job includes a walk round the aisles, docks and yard at the start or end of a shift.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the site, the date and which round this is — start of shift, end of shift, or whatever your site runs.
  2. Walk the areas in the same order each time, one row per aisle, dock or yard area.
  3. Tick what is in order and cross what is not; every cross gets a line in the actions table.
  4. Write who each action was raised with, and initial the row when it is done.
  5. Pass racking damage to whoever inspects racking on your site — the round finds it, it does not sign it off.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: The walk round the aisles, docks and yard with a clipboard — floors, aisles, racking, waste and signage, one row per area, and the actions it raised.

Your round, your standard. How often the round is walked, and what counts as acceptable, is set where you work. Racking damage seen on the round goes in the actions table and to whoever inspects racking on your site — this sheet does not replace that inspection.

Questions

How often is the round meant to be walked?

As often as your site decides, and that varies a great deal between a small stores and a busy distribution centre. The sheet has a field for which round it is rather than a printed frequency, so it fits whatever you already do.

Is this a racking inspection?

No. A tick under 'racking clean, no damage' means nothing struck the eye on the walk. A proper racking inspection is a separate job to your site's own standard, and anything found on the round goes to that person through the actions table.
