What this sheet is for

Keep a week of daily walk-around checks on a single sheet that lives with the machine, so the record is made where the machine is rather than in an office.

Who it is for

Anyone running plant — small builders, farms, yards, warehouses, hire fleets and workshops.

How to use it

  1. Keep the sheet on the machine, not in a folder. A check recorded later is a check nobody did.
  2. Record the hour meter every day — it is what turns a list of ticks into a history.
  3. Log defects in the lower table even when you are carrying on, and say who you told.
  4. Start a new sheet each week and file the old one.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

Why are there no pass or fail criteria?

Because they depend on the machine and its manufacturer, and printing generic ones would be worse than printing none. Use the figures in your machine's handbook. Who may operate a machine, what training they need and how often it must be thoroughly examined also differ by country and workplace — check what applies.
