What this sheet is for

Find out whether picking errors are one picker, one aisle or one kind of mistake, before the customer complaints tell you.

Who it is for

Warehouse supervisors and checkers in any operation that picks orders by hand, from a stores cupboard to a fulfilment floor.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the site, date, shift and who is doing the checking.
  2. Give each checked order its own row with the picker's name.
  3. Write the lines picked and the lines you actually checked — they need not be the same.
  4. Tally each error under its type: short, wrong item, wrong quantity, picked from the wrong location.
  5. Total the sheet at the foot and compare it with the figure your operation sets.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: A shift's worth of picked orders checked against what was ordered — lines checked, lines found wrong, and what kind of wrong — so a pattern shows before a customer reports it.

Your target, your comparison. There is no accuracy target on this sheet. What counts as an acceptable error count is set where you work, and the total at the foot is for you to compare against that figure, not one of ours.

Questions

Why is there no accuracy percentage or target on the sheet?

Because an acceptable error count in a pharmacy stores is not an acceptable one in a builders' yard. The target belongs to your operation, so there is a blank for it at the foot, next to the total the sheet produces.

Do I have to check every line of every order?

No. That is why the sheet has both a lines-picked and a lines-checked column. Whether you check everything or a sample is a decision for where you work; the sheet just records which it was.
