What this sheet is for

Take entries in one place, know who has paid and who has withdrawn, and have the seeding decided and recorded before anyone fills in the draw.

Who it is for

Tournament organisers, referees and committee members at club, school and county events in any sport with a drawn competition — racket sports, bowls, darts, martial arts.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the event, closing date, entry fee and draw size at the top.
  2. Take a line for every entry in the order it arrives, and tick the fee when it is paid.
  3. Mark withdrawals with a W so the count at the top stays right.
  4. Once entries close, decide the seeds and write the basis for each one.
  5. Transfer the seeds and entries to the draw sheet.

What is on the sheet

2 pages, in this order:

Page 1

Printed under the title: The entries for one event as they come in — name, club, contact, fee paid — and the seeds decided from them before the draw is made.

The organiser sets the seeds. How many seeds an event takes, what a seeding is based on and what the entry fee is are your tournament's own conditions. The basis column records what each seed was decided on, so the committee can answer the player who asks.

Questions

Why does the sheet not say how many seeds an event should have?

Because that depends on the draw size and on your governing body's or your own tournament regulations. Write the number of seeds your event takes and fill in that many lines.

What counts as a basis for a seed?

Whatever your tournament uses — a ranking list, last year's result, a committee decision. Writing it down means the player who asks why they were not seeded gets an answer rather than an argument.
