What this sheet is for

See at a glance what an athlete's best is in each event and where it was set, and check a claimed PB against the actual results rather than memory.

Who it is for

Club athletes, parents of junior athletes, and coaches keeping a card per athlete.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the athlete, club and coach once at the top.
  2. List each event the athlete competes in on the personal bests table.
  3. After every competition, add the result to the record — PB or not.
  4. When a result beats the PB, move the old mark to the previous PB column and write the new one in.
  5. Start a fresh sheet each season and keep the old ones together.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: One athlete's card for a season — the personal best in each event they compete in, and every competition result underneath it so a new PB can be checked against the old one.

Table, 8 rows: Date · Meeting / venue · Event · Round · Result · Wind · Place · PB? · Notes

Questions

Why is there no qualifying standard or target time on the sheet?

Because entry standards and age-group targets are set by your governing body and your competition, and they change. This sheet records what the athlete actually did; the standard it is compared against is for your coach to look up.

Does a result set with a tailwind count as a PB?

That depends on the event and your governing body's rules on wind assistance. Write the wind reading down as the meeting published it, and let your coach or club decide which marks count.
