Spreadsheet formulas included

The fillable versions have real form fields — open them in any PDF reader, type into them and save. Printing help.

Fill it in online

The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — your entries are kept in this browser's own storage on this device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.

Who this is for

Every game and where it left your rating. Record each club, league, tournament or online game with the opponent, your colour, the opening and the result, and the log counts wins, draws and losses and works out your score.

Club and league players keeping track of a season, online players who want a record beyond the site's history, and juniors or improvers looking for patterns in their games.

What this helps you track

  • Every game with the date, the event and the opponent
  • Which colour you had and which opening was played
  • The result and your rating after each game
  • Wins, draws and losses over the season
  • Your score as a percentage of the points available

How to use it

  1. Write your name, club and the season at the top.
  2. After each game add the date, the event or site, the opponent and their rating if you like in the opponent column.
  3. Choose your colour and the result, and write the opening and your rating after the game.
  4. The win, draw and loss columns, totals and score are worked out in the browser and the workbook; on paper, count a win as 1 and a draw as a half.
  5. Look back over the colour and opening columns to see where your points come from and where they go.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser
  • Excel / Google Sheets workbook

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The workbook uses plain formulas only — SUM, IF, COUNTIF and the like — so it opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without anything breaking, and every calculated cell is grey so you can see which figures it worked out.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

How is the score percentage worked out?

A win counts as one point and a draw as half a point. The points are added up and divided by the number of games, then shown as a percentage.

Can I use it for both over-the-board and online games?

Yes. Put the club, league, tournament or site in the event column. If you have separate ratings for each, it is clearer to keep a separate log for each one.

Where does the rating come from?

From your federation, league or online site, as published after the game. The log does not calculate rating changes, because each rating system works differently.

How do I record a game that was not played, such as a default?

Enter it with the result as it was scored and write default in the opening column, so it counts in the totals the same way it counted for you.
