What this sheet is for

Catch the missing label, the label under the wrong product and the price that does not match the till before a customer does, and fix the cause not the symptom.

Who it is for

Shop-floor staff and supervisors doing a label walk of an aisle or bay, in an independent shop or a branch.

How to use it

  1. Write the aisle or bay at the top and walk it position by position.
  2. For each product, mark whether the label is there, under the right item and matches the till.
  3. Where the price does not match, say which was wrong — the label or the till.
  4. Initial the fixed column once it is put right, or write the action in the note.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: A walk of one aisle or bay checking that every product has a label, the label sits under the right product and the price on it matches the till — the three ways a shelf edge goes wrong.

Which one was wrong?. A label that says one price while the till charges another is the complaint that reaches the counter first. Note the mismatch, then say which one was wrong — the label or the till — so it is fixed at the source and not just re-stuck.

Questions

Why ask which one was wrong?

Because re-sticking a label that was right all along, when the till was wrong, leaves the till still wrong for the next customer. Naming the source gets it fixed once.

How often should an aisle be walked?

That is for your business to set, and it may differ by department. The sheet dates each walk so the gap between them is visible.
