What this sheet is for

Have a carton count in your own hand next to every signature, so a short delivery is a claim and not an argument.

Who it is for

Anyone who takes deliveries at the back door of a shop — stockroom staff, supervisors and owners of independent shops and branches.

How to use it

  1. Count cartons off the van before signing, and write what you counted.
  2. Note any shortage or damage on the line and on the driver's copy.
  3. Initial the line as the person who signed for it.
  4. Write the date and initials when the delivery has been checked in and put away, so nothing sits half-unpacked in the stockroom.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: Every delivery through the back door — who brought it, what the note said, what was actually counted off the van, what was short or damaged, and whether it has been put away.

Sign for what you counted. Count cartons before you sign, and write what you counted, not what the note says. A signature for the note's figure is very hard to argue with later; a signature with a carton count next to it is a record.

Questions

Why count cartons rather than items?

Because that is what you can check while the driver waits. Item-level checking against the delivery note happens when the cartons are opened — the Put away column is for that step, and any shortage inside a carton goes on the Damaged and Returns to Supplier Log.

How is this different from the goods-in delivery check sheet?

That sheet is written for a kitchen, where temperature and date checks matter at the door. This one is for a shop's stockroom, where the count and the signature matter most.
