What this sheet is for

Put a boat back to a known rig after transport, derigging or a crew change. The change log shows what was moved, from what to what, and why.

Who it is for

Rowing coaches, boatmen, riggers and club boat captains.

How to use it

  1. Write down the units and what heights are measured from before you start.
  2. Measure each seat and write the figures as you find them.
  3. Record the blade sets used in the boat.
  4. Log every change on page two, with the figure before and after and the reason.
  5. Measure again after the boat has travelled.

What is on the sheet

2 pages, in this order:

Page 1

Printed under the title: One boat's rig measured seat by seat, with the blades it is rowed with, and on page two every change made since. Nothing here is a recommended setting: the figures are the ones you measure on your own boat.

Rig, seat by seat — sculls: write both sides where they differ

Measure the same way every time. Write down what each figure is measured from and with what, and measure with the boat level and the seat in the same place, so a figure taken next spring means the same as one taken today. Measure before and after any change and write both below. Settings for a crew are the coach's call; this sheet only keeps them.

Questions

Are there recommended settings on the sheet?

No. Rig settings depend on the boat, the crew and the coach, and published tables differ. The sheet records what is on your boat and what you changed, so you can get back to it.

Why write both sides for sculling boats?

A sculling seat has two oarlocks, and the bow side and stroke side are often set at different heights. Writing both keeps the record true to the boat.
