Sound Check and Monitor Mix Sheet
Put the mix that was right at sound check back at show time, and start the next gig from what worked rather than from nothing.
Music and performance · MU-22
A setlist template — song, key, who counts it in, tuning or capo, and how it runs into the next, with a block for encores and spares and notes on the night.
One page. Choose your paper size — both versions are laid out identically, so neither one gets shrunk to fit.
Print it and write on it
Fill it in type and save
The fillable versions have real form fields — open them in any PDF reader, type into them and save. Printing help.
Get through a set without the pause where someone asks what key it is in or whether the capo goes on, and keep a record of what was actually played.
Bands, duos, solo performers and function acts — anyone who plays a set from a running order rather than from memory.
One page, top to bottom:
Printed under the title: The running order for one show, in the form that gets taped to the floor: song, key, who counts it in, and the thing you always forget between songs — the capo, the tuning, the segue.
Write-on lines: Act · Venue · Date · Set · Stage time · Set length agreed · Curfew · Sheet for (player / role)
Table, 13 rows: No. · Song · Key · Count / who starts · Tuning / capo / patch · Into next
Write-on lines: Encore / spares if they want more · Cut these if short on time · Dropped / swapped on the night
Because they are yours and the venue's. Write the agreed length and the curfew in the header and build the set to fit; the sheet does not know how long your songs are.
That is what the 'sheet for' box is for. The drummer's copy wants the counts, the guitarist's wants the capo and patch changes. Print one per person and fill in the column that matters to them.
Put the mix that was right at sound check back at show time, and start the next gig from what worked rather than from nothing.
Let a venue engineer patch the stage before you arrive, and save the twenty minutes of pointing and shouting that a gig without one costs.
Answer every question the band and crew will ask today before they ask it, on one page that can be photographed and passed round the bus.
Get the day out of one person's head and onto a page everybody can read, so the event does not stall when the organiser is dealing with something else.
The same subject, with a version you can fill in on screen.
