What this sheet is for

Keep every pupil's progress and payments in one place, so a term's work can be shown to a parent or written into an exam entry without hunting.

Who it is for

Private instrumental and singing teachers, peripatetic teachers in schools, and music services keeping a record per pupil.

How to use it

  1. Start a new sheet each term or block with the pupil, instrument and what they are working towards.
  2. Write your lesson length and fee in the header once so the log only needs a tick for paid.
  3. Keep the pieces list current — add as you set, cross through as they finish.
  4. After every lesson, note what was covered and what was set; that pair is the record.
  5. Tick attendance and payment as you go rather than reconstructing it later.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: One pupil, one term or block of lessons — what was covered, what was set, whether they came and whether it was paid for, kept by the teacher. Lesson length and fee are yours: write them in the header once and the log only needs a tick.

Write-on lines: Pupil · Instrument / voice · Working towards · Term / block · Parent / contact · Usual day and time · Lesson length · Fee per lesson

Pieces and studies in hand — the current list, crossed off as they finish

Table, 3 rows: Piece / study / scale set · Started · Stage · Finished

Lesson log — covered and set are the record a parent or exam board asks for

Table, 9 rows: Date · Came · Paid · Covered this lesson · Set for next lesson · Notes

Questions

Why is there no lesson length or fee printed on the sheet?

Because they are yours — they vary by teacher, by pupil and by whether it is a school or a private arrangement. The header has a blank for each, and the log then just records that a lesson happened and was paid.

Does the pupil get a copy?

This sheet stays with the teacher. The Pupil Practice Assignment Sheet is the one that goes home; the 'set for next lesson' column here is what goes on it.
