What this sheet is for
Hold a pedigree on paper so breeding decisions and registrations can be made without reconstructing three years of matings from memory.
Who it is for
Pedigree breeders, smallholders keeping their own replacements, and breed society members.
How to use it
- Record registration numbers as well as names.
- Note where the registration papers physically are.
- Record every mating, including the ones that came to nothing.
- Keep the sheet with the animals' other records, not in a drawer.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
Will this tell me whether a mating is too close?
No. It records the pedigree you know; it calculates nothing and advises nothing. Where inbreeding is a real risk, your breed society or a geneticist is the source.
