Questions

Why walk round with the customer rather than after they have gone?

Because a mark written down in front of them is agreed; one written down afterwards is your word against theirs. Two minutes at check-in saves a much longer conversation at handback.

Where does the customer's description of the fault go?

On the job card, in their own words — the checklist reminds you to take it down. This sheet is about the state of the car as it arrived, not the work.
