What this sheet is for

Show a returning customer what their battery tested at last time. Keep a record of the advice given whether or not they took it.

Who it is for

Workshops, fast-fit centres and breakdown or fleet operations that test batteries as a matter of routine.

How to use it

  1. Write in the tester make and model once at the top of each sheet.
  2. Log every battery tested, including the ones that passed.
  3. Copy the rated figure from the battery label and the result from the tester.
  4. Record the verdict the tester gave and what the customer was advised.
  5. Initial each line so the advice can be traced to a person.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: A running log of every battery put on the tester — what the label said, what the tester read, and what was advised — so a customer who comes back can be shown what it tested at last time.

The tester's verdict, not ours. The rated figure comes off the battery label and the result comes off your tester; what counts as a pass is whatever your tester and the battery maker say, not a line on this sheet. Write down the reading and the verdict the tester gave.

Questions

Why is there no pass or fail threshold printed?

Because what counts as good depends on the tester you use, the battery type and the maker's rating, and the tester applies its own rule. The sheet records the reading and the verdict it gave; it does not second-guess them.

Should I log a battery that tested fine?

Yes. The value of the log is the trend: a battery that was fine last winter and marginal this one is a conversation worth having, and you can only have it if the fine result was written down.
