What this sheet is for

Make each agreed visit to a loaned horse a checked record that owner and loanee both initial. Concerns are written down with an action and a date, not left as a feeling.

Who it is for

Owners who have loaned a horse out, loanees, and charities and rescues that rehome horses on loan.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the horse, both parties, the yard and how often the agreement says visits happen.
  2. At each visit, write the date at the head of the next column and go down the list together.
  3. Use your own condition scale and the same weight tape each time, so the readings compare.
  4. Write any concern overleaf with the action agreed and a date, and both initial it.
  5. Keep the take-back plan current, in case the loan has to end.

Questions

Why is there no target weight or condition score?

Because the right weight and score depend on the horse, and the owner and their vet are the people to set them. The sheet records the readings visit by visit on your own scale, so a change shows up.

Is this a loan agreement?

No. It is the record of the visits a written loan agreement provides for. Keep the signed agreement separately and note on page two where it is kept.
