Portable Appliance Inspection Record

What this sheet is for

Keep one register of the portable electrical equipment you are responsible for, with a dated line each time an item is checked and by whom.

Who it is for

Workshops, offices, village halls, holiday lets, event and hire companies, and anyone keeping their own record of portable electrical equipment.

How to use it

1. List each item once with its make, model and asset or ID number.
2. Mark the same number on the item so a line can always be matched to a plug.
3. Record the date, who carried out the check, and the result they recorded.
4. Note what was done about anything found, and when the next check is planned.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

Why does this sheet have no pass criteria or test values?

Because they are not ours to publish. What must be inspected or tested, how often, by whom and to what standard differ by country, and differ again between equipment used at home and equipment used at work. A number printed here would outlive the rule it came from.

Does filling this in mean the equipment is compliant?

No. It records what you did and when. Whether that satisfies any duty you are under is decided by the rules where you are — check them, and keep whatever documentation those rules call for alongside this register.
