What this sheet is for
Keep a numbered register of every ladder, step and tower on site and a dated grid showing when each one was last looked over.
Who it is for
Workshops, builders, decorators, window cleaners, facilities staff, landlords and anyone whose ladders get used by more than one person.
How to use it
- List every ladder, step, tower and platform once, and give each a number.
- Mark that number on the item itself so the register and the equipment agree.
- At each check, tick the parts you examined and write down anything you found.
- Where something is found, record what you did about it — including taking the item out of use.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
How often should a ladder be checked?
That depends on where you are and how the ladder is used. Work-at-height duties and equipment inspection requirements differ by country, and commercial use is usually treated differently from use at home. Check what applies to you and write your own interval at the top of the sheet.
Is a completed sheet an inspection report?
No. It is your own record of what you examined and what you found. It is not a certificate, it does not carry anyone's authority, and it does not show that any particular requirement has been met.
