Training Model and Practice Log

A free printable salon training record sheet — a trainee's log of every model practised on, the service done, who supervised and what to work on next.

First page of the Training Model and Practice Log — Build the evidence a training provider asks for as you go, and let a trainee see which skills they have practised and which they keep avoiding.

What this sheet is for

Build the evidence a training provider asks for as you go, and let a trainee see which skills they have practised and which they keep avoiding.

Who it is for

Apprentices and trainees in hairdressing, barbering, beauty, nails and tattooing, and the educators who sign them off.

How to use it

  1. Write the skill or unit being worked on and the target your provider has set at the top.
  2. Add a row for every model: name or reference, service, consent and patch test done as your training requires.
  3. Note the products and technique used so a repeat on the same model matches.
  4. Have the supervisor initial each row and write feedback while it is fresh.
  5. Sign the sheet off together when it is full.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: A trainee's own log of every model they practised on — who, what was done, who supervised, and what the assessor said — building into the evidence a training provider asks to see.

Your provider sets the target. How many practice hours or models a qualification needs, and what has to be signed off, is set by your training provider and awarding body. This sheet is the log they will want to see; it does not say how much is enough.

Write-on lines: Trainee · Salon / academy · Educator / supervisor · Course or level · Skill or unit being worked on · Target set by provider · Log sheet no.

Practice sessions — one row per model

Table, 8 rows: Date · Model · Service practised · Consent / patch test · Products & technique · Supervised by · Assessor feedback · Signed off

Signature strip: Trainee · Educator / supervisor · Date

Questions

How many models do I need before I am signed off?

That is set by your training provider or awarding body, not by this sheet. There is a box at the top for the target they have given you, so you can see how the log is filling up against it.

Can a model be a friend or family member?

Whether a model has to be a paying client, a volunteer or a fellow trainee is a question for your provider and the rules where you work. The log only asks for a name or reference.
