What this sheet is for

See whether a quiet week for sign-ups is because nobody joined or because nobody was asked, which are different problems with different fixes.

Who it is for

Managers of independent shops and branches running a loyalty card, app or points scheme, and the till staff who offer it.

How to use it

  1. Write the scheme name and, if you have one, your own weekly target at the top.
  2. Each person makes a stroke for every customer asked and another for every one who joins, on their own line for the shift.
  3. Total both tallies at the end of the shift.
  4. Add the week up at the bottom and note what worked and what put people off.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: A week of loyalty-scheme sign-ups at the till, person by person and shift by shift — how many customers were asked, how many joined, and what the totals came to.

Asks and joins, both counted. No sign-up target is printed. If head office or you set one, write it in the blank at the top; the sheet counts asks as well as joins, because a low join count with a low ask count is a different problem from a low join count with a high one.

Write-on lines: Store / branch · Week beginning · Scheme · Week's target (yours)

By shift — one line per person per shift

Table, 7 rows: Date · Staff member · Asked (tally) · Asked · Joined (tally) · Joined · Notes

Week — totals from the columns above

Write-on lines: Customers asked · Joined · Joins per ask · Best shift · Signed off

Ruled lines: Notes — what worked at the till and what put people off

Questions

Why is there no target on the sheet?

Because a target is set by you or your head office, and printing one would be inventing it. There is a blank at the top for yours.

Why count asks and not just joins?

Because joins alone hide the cause. Few asks and few joins means the offer is not being made; many asks and few joins means the offer itself is not landing. Both counts together tell you which.
