What this sheet is for

Pick up exactly where the last lesson left off, and keep the money straight with the pupil without a separate ledger.

Who it is for

Driving instructors, both independent and franchised, and anyone teaching a learner in a structured way.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the pupil's details and your rate once at the top.
  2. After each lesson, log the topics, how independently the pupil managed them and what to do next time.
  3. Record what was paid and the running balance on the same row.
  4. Tick a syllabus item once the pupil can do it unprompted.
  5. Use the next-lesson column to plan before the pupil gets in the car.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: One pupil's progress across their lessons — what was covered each time, how it went, what to do next, and the money on the same page. Lesson prices, how many hours a pupil needs and what the test asks are yours and your licensing body's: the rate box is for your figure, the level column for your judgement.

Write-on lines: Pupil · Phone · Licence no. (last part) · Provisional expiry · Instructor · Vehicle reg. · Lesson rate · Theory passed · Test date booked

Lessons — one row per lesson, in order

Table, 10 rows: Date · Start · Length · Topics covered · Level · Next lesson: work on · Paid · Balance

Syllabus tick-off — tick when the pupil can do it without prompting

  • Moving off and stopping
  • Mirrors, signals, position
  • Junctions and roundabouts
  • Reversing and turning in the road
  • Parking — bay and parallel
  • Dual carriageways
  • Independent driving / sat-nav
  • Night and wet-weather driving
  • Emergency stop

Questions

Why is there no lesson price or number of hours on the sheet?

Because your price is yours, and how many hours a pupil needs is theirs. The sheet records what was taught and what was paid; the rate box at the top is for your figure.

Does the syllabus tick-off match the test?

It is a plain list of the things most learners have to be able to do. What the test in your country actually examines is set by your licensing body — add or strike items to match it.
