What this sheet is for

Inspect element by element, and follow every finding through to the day it is closed. It is the detailed record kept between annual external inspections.

Who it is for

Ropes course operators, technical leads and the staff who carry out periodic inspections.

How to use it

  1. Write in the interval your procedures set and the date of the last external inspection.
  2. Work through each element and mark every component OK, n/a or a finding number.
  3. Count the equipment pool and write how many were checked and retired, and why.
  4. Describe each numbered finding on page two with an action, an owner and a date.
  5. Close each finding with a date and initials, and write when the next inspection is due.

What is on the sheet

2 pages, in this order:

Page 1

Printed under the title: The hands-on inspection between annual external inspections: each element's cables, terminations, clamps, anchors, poles, platforms and nets, then the equipment pool, with every finding numbered and followed until it is closed.

Your procedures set the criteria. How often this inspection runs, and what passes, come from your own operating procedures, the course builder and the annual inspector: no interval, tension, wear limit or equipment age is printed here. In each box write OK, the number of a finding (described on page two), or n/a.

Write-on lines: Course · Inspection date · Inspection team · Interval set by your procedures · Last external inspection: date, by · External due

Questions

How often should this inspection be done?

That depends on how busy the course is and what your operating procedures, the builder and your annual inspector say. No interval is printed, so write your own in the box at the top.

Why is there no age limit for harnesses or helmets?

Lifespans come from each maker and from how the kit is used and stored. Write the date made or issued for the oldest item, and retire kit by the maker's instructions.
