What this sheet is for
Keep track of what lifting gear you hold, what each item is marked at, and when each was last examined.
Who it is for
Workshops, garages, farms, yards, small contractors and anyone with slings and chains in a cupboard.
How to use it
- Give every item an ID mark and record it here.
- Copy the working load limit from the marking on the item itself.
- Record the examination certificate number, and keep the certificates elsewhere.
- Quarantine anything unmarked, unidentified or overdue.
- Record what happened to items taken out of service.

Capacities come off the item, not off this sheet. The working load limit goes in from the marking on the item itself. Nothing is printed here, because a capacity taken from a printable rather than from the equipment is how people get hurt. Examination intervals and who may carry them out differ by country. Who may authorise and carry out this work, what training and certification they need, what must be recorded and how long it must be kept differ by country and by workplace. This sheet names no scheme, sets no criteria and satisfies no regulation on its own — check what applies where you are.

Why is no working load limit or examination interval printed?
Because a capacity taken from a printable rather than from the marking on the item is how people get hurt, and examination intervals and who may carry them out differ by country. Both come from the equipment and your local rules.
