What this sheet is for

Turn tyre pressure guesses into a pattern you can read across a day, and see how the spread across the tread answers each change.

Who it is for

Track day drivers, sprint and hillclimb competitors and club racers with a gauge and a pyrometer, and the helper holding them.

How to use it

  1. Note the gauge and pyrometer used at the top — two gauges rarely agree.
  2. Fill in the session conditions row before the car goes out.
  3. Take cold pressures before the session and hot pressures and temperatures the moment it comes in.
  4. Write what you adjusted each corner to, and why, in the same row.
  5. Compare the sheets circuit by circuit.

What is on the sheet

2 pages, in this order:

Page 1

Printed under the title: Cold and hot pressures and inner, middle and outer temperatures on every corner, session by session, with the adjustment made — the record that turns tyre guesses into a pattern.

Your supplier's targets, your gauge's numbers. Target pressures and the temperature spread you are looking for across a tread come from your tyre supplier and your own testing, and change with the car, the circuit and the weather. No figures are printed here. Note the gauge and pyrometer used, because two gauges rarely agree.

Write-on lines: Car · Circuit · Date · Tyre make / compound · Gauge used · Pyrometer used · Driver · Set / batch no.

Questions

Why are there no target pressures or temperatures printed?

Because they come from your tyre supplier and your own testing, and they change with the car, the compound, the circuit and the weather. A figure printed here would be wrong for most cars. The sheet holds your readings; the targets are yours.

Where do I write the tyre wear?

In the notes column against the corner — graining, blistering, edge wear — or on the Tyre and Brake Record if you track a set over its life.
