What this sheet is for

Keep a competition car's crash and repair history traceable, so a part that was replaced can be tied to the reason and nothing damaged goes out unchecked.

Who it is for

Club racers, rally crews, hillclimb and sprint competitors, and anyone preparing or buying a car that has raced.

How to use it

  1. Log the incident the same day, before the repair: event, session and what happened.
  2. Record the damage actually found once the car is stripped, not just what was visible.
  3. List each part replaced and its cost, so the repair bill and the parts history agree.
  4. Have whoever checked the car before its next session sign the row.
  5. Keep the sheet with the car — it is part of its history when it is sold.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: Every knock, off, contact and failure on a competition car — what happened, what it damaged, what was replaced and whether the car was checked before it went out again.

Incident first, repair second. A car that has been off is a car with unknowns in it. Log the incident before the repair, so the parts replaced are traceable to the reason, and record who signed the car off before its next session. What counts as a scrutineerable repair is for your championship's regulations, not this sheet.

Questions

Does the sheet say when a repair needs re-scrutineering?

No. Whether a repair, a replaced cage or a new tub needs inspection or a new logbook is set by your championship's technical regulations and your governing body — check with them. This sheet records what was damaged and what was done.

Should mechanical failures go on here too?

Yes, if they took the car off or stopped it. A driveshaft that let go is an incident with a cause, a repair and a check before the next run, just like a kerb strike.
