A free printable classic car parts record — which components are original, which were replaced and with what, the evidence for each, and the documents held.
One page. Choose your paper size — both versions are laid out identically, so neither one gets shrunk to fit.
Print it and write on it
Fill it in type and save
The fillable versions have real form fields — open them in any PDF reader, type into them and save. Printing help.
Turn 'I believe it is matching numbers' into a component-by-component record with the evidence behind it, ready for a buyer, a concours judge or an insurer.
Owners of classic, historic and collector cars, and anyone preparing one for sale, valuation or a club register.
One page, top to bottom:
Printed under the title: What on the car is original, what has been replaced and with what — a component-by-component record that answers the questions a buyer, a judge or an insurer will ask.
Say how you know. Originality is a claim, and a claim needs evidence. For every part, record how you know: a factory stamp, a build sheet, a period invoice, or simply that you fitted it yourself. A part you are unsure about is 'unknown', not 'original'.
Write-on lines: Make / model / year · Chassis / VIN · Engine no. · Body no. / colour code · Build date / factory · Owner
Table, 7 rows: Component · Original? · Part / casting no. · Replaced on · Replacement source · Evidence
Write 'unknown'. An honest gap is worth more than a guess, and a buyer or judge will trust the rest of the record more for it. You can come back and fill it in when the evidence turns up.
No. What a register, club or judging standard accepts differs by marque and by event, so check with them. This sheet records what is on the car and how you know; the interpretation is theirs.
Give a multi-year restoration a written history and an honest running cost, instead of a box of receipts and a memory of roughly how long the engine took.
Keep a dated account of which documents you actually saw and what each one said, rather than a memory of being shown a folder.
Put a race car, classic or summer car away so it comes out in the spring in the state it went in, and remember what was blocked, disconnected or deferred.
List what you own before you need to, so a claim or a police report starts from a document rather than from trying to remember a burgled room.
Every sheet, binder, game and puzzle on Upkeep Papers is free to download, with no email and no account. Making them is not free: each one takes days of research, design and checking, and the site costs money to run. If something here saved you time, you can buy us a coffee. It is entirely optional: nothing is locked, and nothing changes if you don’t.
Opens PayPal in a new tab. Any amount, and nothing changes if you would rather not.
