What this sheet is for
Record the brooder weeks, where most losses happen and where nobody keeps notes.
Who it is for
Anyone brooding chicks, ducklings, keets or poults.
How to use it
- Record the number alive every day. It is the fastest way to notice a problem.
- Watch where the chicks sit rather than the thermometer, and note what you saw.
- Weigh a sample rather than every bird.
- Record the date they went out and how many made it.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
What brooder temperature should I use?
None is printed. Species, breed and brooder type all change it, and the birds themselves are the better guide: huddled under the lamp is cold, pressed to the edges is hot, spread evenly is right. Record what you set and what they did.
