What this sheet is for

Know who was on your guest network or a temporary login and when it ended, which is the first question asked if something odd turns up in the logs.

Who it is for

Reception desks, IT support and small offices that give visitors, contractors or temps a guest network or a short-lived account.

How to use it

  1. Record the visitor, their company and the member of staff hosting them.
  2. Note what was issued — guest Wi-Fi, a voucher code or a temporary login — and on what device.
  3. Give the password verbally or on a card that comes back; never write it here.
  4. Fill the revoked column when the visitor leaves or the login is switched off.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: Every visitor given access to the guest network or a temporary login — who they were, who hosted them, what was issued and when it was revoked — without the password ever being written down.

No password on this page. The guest network password is never written on this sheet. Give it verbally, on a card that goes back in the drawer, or by a voucher code that expires. What this sheet records is WHO had access and WHEN it ended, which is what you need if something goes wrong on the network afterwards.

Write-on lines: Site / office · Guest network name · Log kept by

Table, 14 rows: Date · Visitor name · Company · Host · Access type · Device · Issued at · Ended · Init.

Questions

Why not just print the Wi-Fi password on the sheet?

Because this sheet lives on a reception desk and gets photocopied. A password on it is a password on the wall. The sheet records who had access and when, which is the useful part; a guest password that gets changed is not worth writing down anyway.
