Paint Mix and Colour Code Record

A free printable paint code record sheet — the colour code read from the vehicle, the spray-out cards tried, and every mix made against the job.

First page of the Paint Mix and Colour Code Record — Repeat a match rather than rediscover it. A comeback can be answered with the exact variant and formula reference that went on the car.

What this sheet is for

Repeat a match rather than rediscover it. A comeback can be answered with the exact variant and formula reference that went on the car.

Who it is for

Body shops, smart repairers and anyone mixing paint against a job card rather than buying an aerosol.

How to use it

  1. Read the paint code from the vehicle's plate and write it in, with where the plate was.
  2. Log each spray-out card and what it was compared against, and mark the one that matched.
  3. Write a line for every pot mixed: panels, stage, formula reference, quantity.
  4. Note what was left over so the next job knows what is on the shelf.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: The colour code as read from the vehicle, the variant that matched on a spray-out card, and every mix made against the job — so a second coat or a comeback is mixed the same way.

Your paint system's formula, recorded here. Formulas, ratios and flash times come from your paint system's own data and the product sheet, not from here. This sheet records which code, which variant and which mix was used, so that the next person can repeat it rather than guess.

Write-on lines: Job card no. · Vehicle reg · Make & model · Year · Paint code (as read from plate) · Plate location · Colour name · Finish

Questions

Why is there no mixing ratio or flash time printed?

Because those belong to your paint system and the product you are using, and they differ between systems. The sheet records the formula reference and the variant you used, so the same mix can be made again from your own data.

What goes in 'compared against'?

The panel you held the card next to, and the light you did it under — daylight, a colour-matching lamp, the booth lights. A match under one is not always a match under another, and it is worth knowing which one you trusted.
