Know which carburettor setting worked best, and get back to it when something changes. One change per line, with the conditions, shows what each change actually did.
Motorcycle, kart, classic car and small engine owners and tuners who set up their own carburettors.
2 pages, in this order:
Printed under the title: Every jetting change and adjustment, one at a time, with the conditions and how the engine ran at each throttle opening, so the best setting is known and can be found again.
One change at a time. No jet sizes, clip positions or screw settings are printed: start from the carburettor or engine maker's baseline and change one thing at a time. Count clip positions from the top of the needle and screw turns out from lightly seated, the same way every time.
Write-on lines: Engine or vehicle · Carb make and model · Size · No. of carbs · Fuel, and oil mix if two-stroke · Air filter and exhaust fitted · Spark plug
Also printed: Setting · Main jet · Pilot jet · Needle · Clip · Needle jet · Screw · Float · Slide · type · from top · turns out · height · cutaway · As found · Maker's baseline · Best known
Also printed: Conditions · The one change · How it ran
Table, 25 rows: Date · Temp · Altitude · Humidity · Setting · From · To · Idle · ¼ · ½ · ¾ · Full · Plug · Keep?
Ruled lines: What made the difference, and anything to try next time
They depend on the carburettor, the engine, its exhaust and air filter, and where it runs. Start from the maker's baseline, write it in, and let your own results show what the engine wants.
If two things change at once you cannot tell which one made the difference. A line per change, with the weather beside it, is what lets you find the best setting again.

Track the consumables that move fast on a bike — chain, tyres and pads — between the services that happen once a year.
Give every small machine in the shed the same maintenance record, using one sheet per machine.
Give a multi-year restoration a written history and an honest running cost, instead of a box of receipts and a memory of roughly how long the engine took.
Every sheet, binder, game and puzzle on Upkeep Papers is free to download, with no email and no account. Making them is not free: each one takes days of research, design and checking, and the site costs money to run. If something here saved you time, you can buy us a coffee. It is entirely optional: nothing is locked, and nothing changes if you don’t.
