Catch what is coming to the end of its date while there is still time to use it, and leave a dated record that the round was walked.
Food production and artisan makers · FP-27
A free printable date code record sheet — every batch labelled, the life applied and where that figure came from, the code on the pack, and a second check.
One page. Choose your paper size — both versions are laid out identically, so neither one gets shrunk to fit.
Print it and write on it
Fill it in type and save
The fillable versions have real form fields — open them in any PDF reader, type into them and save. Printing help.
Show for any pack on any shelf why it carries the date it does and that someone checked the code against the batch before it left.
Small food producers labelling their own products — bakers, cheese makers, preservers, cured meat and ready-meal makers.
One page, top to bottom:
Printed under the title: Every batch as it is labelled — the life you applied from your own testing or the rules you trade under, the date code that went on the pack, and a second pair of eyes that the code matched the batch.
Whose figure the life is. No product life is printed here. The life a product carries is set by your own shelf-life work, your supplier's information for bought-in components, and the rules where you trade — write the source in its column so an inspector or a customer can be shown where the figure came from. This sheet records that the right code went on.
Write-on lines: Producer / unit · Product range · Month
Table, 14 rows: Date packed · Product · Batch / lot · Life applied · Source of life · Code printed · Format · Checked by · Notes
Because the life a product can carry depends on your recipe, your process, your packaging and your own shelf-life work — and the rules where you trade decide which date format applies. The sheet records the figure and its source; it does not supply one.
No. Rotation checks what is on the shelf against the dates already on it. This records the dates going on at packing.
Catch what is coming to the end of its date while there is still time to use it, and leave a dated record that the round was walked.
Handle a bad batch in order and prove afterwards exactly what was pulled, from where and when, rather than reconstructing it from phone calls.
Record the batch codes going in and the destinations going out, so a recall or a complaint can be traced to one day's production rather than all of it.
Index a freezer or a store cupboard so that stock rotates properly and things are found before they are forgotten.

Making them is not free: each one takes days of research, design and checking, and the site costs money to run. If something here saved you time, you can buy us a coffee.
